Search on Google for your proposed name. Check how many matches come back. Ideally your combination of words will provide very few, but if there are matches, at least make sure that there are no domains that would be clear competitors to your proposal.

Run the proposed name through a translation service and check that the name is not rude or offensive in any other languages. At some stage you may want to expand your business internationally.

When you pick your business name, first check to see if there are good domain names available that are in your industry, so you can have the business name and the domain name at the same time. Share your options with a trusted friend or two for feedback!
