Tip Sheet

Put a few vegetables with little taste such as corn, peas and most green vegetables into your main meal. You probably won't taste them (good for picky eaters) and over time you might grow to like them on their own in greater quantities.

Switch to lower fat alternatives to popular foods such as low fat dairy products and margarine. They taste almost the same and are much better for you. You can always get a regular version later as a treat. Everything is good in moderation.

If you're frying food like bacon put them on a paper cloth to absorb the liquid fat still on the food, and let it sit for a few minutes. That should remove excess unhealthy fat without affecting the taste.

You may know that wild salmon is great for giving you heart healthy omega-3 fatty acids. Cut your expense, use cheap canned pink salmon for sandwiches and for casseroles, instead of tuna (which may have mercury).

A cup of fat free fruit flavored is good for you, spread it on bread or bagels. Black beans are loaded with fiber, great with rice. Almonds and other nuts are healthy. Tuna has lots of protein and fish oil

Replacing white carbs with beans is a sure way to eat healthier. Beans have a lot of dietary fiber, which digest slowly and help keep your blood sugar levels from spiking. Which is much healthier for you.
