Don't discourage your child from feeling upset, angry, or frustrated. Listen to your child, ask questions to find out why they are feeling that way, and then offer potential solutions to alleviate the bad feeling. This is responding.

Put yourself in your child's place. It will give you a better perspective and will help you understand him/her better. And sometimes the best solution is a hug.

When I cant understand my daughter we sit down in a quiet environment and I ask all the questions I can to get to the root of the problem. Then we both find solutions to the problem we write pros and cons and I let her choose the one best for her.
