Look for an older model of GPS, but where the maps can be updated freely online. GPS echnology has barely changed in recent years but it is the up-to-date maps and directions which are most important.

The best time to purchase a GPS is after it has been discontinued and the price has been lowered to sell off inventory. If the chipset that drives the GPS has not changed recently, the GPS will be a great buy compared to current models. Check the Nuvi 7

I've bought a number of different GPS models, and I've always been the most happy with the Magellan Roadmate.

There are excellent GPS models being manufactured in China, and which are loaded with goodies for gadget freaks. However, they're only available wholesale; but the MOQ can be a s low as 50 units or less, for some types.
