Thanks Kurt, always had trouble with the gain chain. your tip really works. Here is one of mine! If you can't afford a vocal booth or acoustic foam Glue a few tens or hundreds of egg boxes to portable polystyreen sheets and use as screens as required.

If you're recording music on a digital recorder, aim to have average levels in the -20db - 10db range. If you have old-skool VU meters, these same levels should be hitting -5VU most of the time with the occasional peak to 0VU. Happy recording!
