Heavy doses of liquid fertilizer from those tank trucks that dope up lawns for greenness soak down into water tables and do great damage. "Greenlawn" trucks should be banned or made to use less harmful chemicals. PLUS they STINK up whole neighborhoods!

There are some really good and easy to follow ways to improve the condition and fertility of your soil. Using compost, and some easy homemade fetilisers can save you and the planet.

A worm bin is an excellent way to get really rich compost to enrich your soil. It also is a fantastic way to recycle food waste, egg cartons and vacuum cleaner contents (especially if you have hair-shedding pets).

Do away with the old petro-chemical based fertilizers. There are many biological choices. Use manures like cow, sheep, pigeon but always compost well or make a diluted "tea". Use mulch and the most fantastic results come from using kelp in your garden.

You can actually make your own soil for container gardening. You don't have to spend all that money for commercial potting soils and you can customize it for your own area and soil conditions.
