If your child is reluctant to read, buy a book or magazine about something that fascinates him, preferably at his level. Otherwise read it to him or with him. Because of his interest in the subject, he is more likely to persevere with reading the book.

Find a book or series that the whole family can enjoy; we found the Harry Potter series when my children were youung - it gave us several years quality time but also encouraged a love for books that still exists today - they are now 20!
