Tip Sheet

I know you always here that you should exercise 30 to 60 minutes a day. Even if you feel you cannot make that kind of commitment to your health, you can at least walk 10 minutes can't you? Start small and realize that every movement adds up.

Rather than going alone, do a joint venture. Include your spouse or a colleague/friend in the plan. Or join a group that exercises in the neighborhood. Its all about getting your mind adjusted to the routine. With peer or 'pair' pressure you'll succeed

If possible, pace around when you talk on the phone or watch TV or videos online or off. It's a great way to squeeze exercise into normal daily activities - no extra time for a walk is needed.

Just turn off the TV and go talk with your neighbour, or walk around the block with another mom, or park the car 1mile from work and walk the last part.

I think people need to get over the idea of having some super model image, or some he-man physique. Both of these are to look good in the eyes of others. Real inner health is looking good for yourself, and being kinder to youself.

Exercising first thing in the day will tend to have a better effect than later. It will get your metabolism going, plus if you put it off until later in the day, other life issues, or just being tired, will often get in the way.

Swimming has to be one of the best exercises. It's aerobic and tones your body without stressing joints and muscles. And it's fun! Go to your local pool before work or join a health centre that has one.

Regular exercise is vital to maintaining a healthy active body, but this doesn’t mean pumping iron or running a marathon. Aim for a minimum of 20 minutes, 3 times per week - even brisk walking is better than nothing

Walk or cycle to and from work. If that sounds unachievable, arrange to take public transport in one direction and walk in the other.

3-4 at days a week at least, I do things with the family after supper. We take walks, hike on the trails near here, bike ride, go to the park, play baseball...It helps relax and you get to spend fun, quality time with them.

Park your car farther away and walk. Take the stairs instead of the elevator.

Clean the entire house, top to bottom. Vaccum, scrubbing, floors, laundry, etc. Not only will it give you a mental freshen-up, it can be a butt kicking workout. I try to do this once a week (usually Sunday AM).

Walking is great, but women who walk tend to neglect upper-body strength-building exercises. Older women thus have difficulty raising themselves from a chair or bed. So... don't forget upper body strength is very important!

I really don't have time to put in a 60 min exercise routine other than on my days off. What I do is a mix of 5 minute squats, lunges, heel raises during breaks, 30+ push ups / sit ups and yoga stretches after work - power walk - take stairs...

Sitting at a PC all day will lead to poor leg & back muscles that will lead to pain & poor circulation. Make sure you move throughout your day. Get a portable peddle machine for under your desk to keep the blood flowing.

I have found that building it into your daily work regimen helps. I like running and I bring my gear with me, preplan where I'm going to go running, change in a washroom and run before I get home. Usually, once I'm home it's game over.

Don't Try To Do Too Many Exercises: A common mistake many people make is going to the gym and trying to exercise their entire body in one session. This is an easy way to get burned out or get injured. Try 2 work upper body one day n lower body the next.

Do exercise trade-offs. I've found that some days I prefer to get some exercise doing some work around the house or yard or taking Maggie the wonder dog for a walk instead of treadmill time.

Walk or bike to any errands within a mile or two -like the grocery store, the video store, the dry cleaner, the pet groomer. Your kids walk or bike miles a day when they hang out outside, and they don't notice. Try doing the same.

Toning and firming up is easier when you like the exercise you are doing.

I'm so old that exercise for me is getting my fat patootie out of the office chair, running through the family room, dining room, living room, and Master bedroom to get to the bathroom before I pee myself.

Stay away from lots of muscle-building exercise, unless you're training for some event. All that muscle does is justify a high food intake, which turns to flab when the exercise stops. Try exercising for movement and muscle tone, and you'll eat less.

Develop a taste for raw fresh food: have juicy fruit first thing in the morning, and have a fresh salad or coleslaw every day, with a home-made dressing. Commercial products are very often addictive, so change to something fresh - God's gift to us.

if there is no time for do exercise. I just push up and sit up before sleep. That's good for muscle.
