Do Not Budget your money. Many people get all caught up in having to keep to a budget. Less than 5% of the families in the US can do it. A much better way is take your savings out as soon as you get paid and make what is left stretch to the next payday.

Teach your children to save. I required my kids to save half of what they made while they were living at home.

My favorite tip on saving for retirement is put your money into your retirement fund as soon as you get paid. If you have easy access to funds most of us will dip into them before our next payday. Save first.

Have the savings amount deducted from your salary before you get your paycheck ie 401k contributions. After a while, you will not even know it is being deducted and learn to live on your takehome pay.
