Tip Sheet

It is easy to get carried away when we're watching the kids we love play organized sports. Remember that you are the adult if something upsetting happens. Kids take their cues from the adults they see. Try to keep things in perspective.

I have seen a lot of the recent videos of parents acting crazy at sporting events. It makes me feel really bad for the kids.

The key is to provide a positive atmosphere for everyone involved (especially the kids) while ensuring the kids are there to have fun. Sure, teaching them lessons about winning and losing are valuable, but there needs to be a fine balance.

Kids need to know that they are in a team sport and being there for each and every player is what the sport is about. Positioning yourself for a good play by all players makes it a team win!
