Horse Tips (why do horses lay down)

Tip Sheet Credibility: 42

submitted by Bliss 2009-08-06 09:06:54 am

Horses are most often observed lying down during short periods of rest. Horses will lay down if they feel it is safe, for example if there are other horses standing around calmly. My own horses sometimes lay in the afternoon sun and take short naps.

Tip Sheet Credibility: 34

submitted by CatLovingCare 2009-08-25 03:41:10 pm

I don't know about flees, BUT Ticks do not like to bite on humans who have eaten garlic. This works on cats too! ... So, add some garlic in your cat's food and less ticks will jump on your pet.

Local animal shelters are the best place to get pets. The cost may be high at first, but the pets have their shots and are already spayed or neutered. This is cheaper then take a free cat to the vets for the same care.

Omega 3 Essential for Pets

Tip Sheet Credibility: 27

submitted by gotflax 2009-09-16 09:32:28 pm

Pet food has been stripped of Omega 3 just as our food has. Commercial pet foods are deficient in Omega 3 essential fatty acids or the Omega 3 has gone rancid. Adding Cold Milled Flax to pet food is a perfect way to get Omega 3 into our pet's diet.

May youngest had a hard time when we lost our six year old cat in a fire. It has been three year and we have new cats, but he still misses and talks about the old cat. My son was six at the time. Having a picture and talking about it is the best way.

Preventing Cat Litter Box Problems

Tip Sheet Credibility: 21

submitted by toptipster 2009-07-18 06:46:40 am

When most of the litter is gone and the rest has some odor, use it to absorb oil in the driveway. Put it out dry, and scratch it in with your shoe. You will have a clean driveway and won't feel bad about wasting the last bit of litter in the pan.

How to potty train your dog

Tip Sheet Credibility: 18

submitted by mdillow 2009-10-16 03:07:46 pm

Teach your dog to ring a bell hung on the door they use the most often. Ring the bell yourself every time you take the dog outside to go potty. Don't do anything else outside; come back in. Be consistent & soon the dog will ring the bell to let you know.

If you want to raise chickens for meat as well as eggs, look for "dual purpose" breeds. They are heavier than specialized egg layers. Rhode Island Red is one of the most popular - very productive, hardy, and usually grow to a good size.

The green beans is a good idea, but not for a total diet, just as a filler. Feed a quality protein base diet and bulk it up with canned green beans. You can buy giant commercial sized cans at Sam's Club. One to two cups per meal for 50 lb dog.

flying with dogs

Tip Sheet Credibility: 11

submitted by millzee1 2009-08-30 06:35:10 pm

Put your dog first. Flying is a traumatic experience for many humans, let alone animals who may not be fully aware in this environment. Even worse, after the traumatic experience they will end up in a new location. Leaving them behind may be less painful.

Dogs learn through repeated actions. Repeat your command, guide him to perform it, and reward him when he does it correctly. You might need to perform this repeatedly. But it works.

When selecting a cat carrier always get one with an opening at both ends and if possible with a third opening on top. You will understand why if you ever try to get a scared cat out of a carrier with only one opening.

How To Take Care Of Your Dog

Tip Sheet Credibility: 7

submitted by Glassman 2009-07-17 10:02:52 am

If you feed your dog wet food, mash the food down. Dogs are impatient, they gulp their food down too fast. By mashing it down, they can only get a little at a time so they will have to work a little to eat. This will help out with their digestive system.

We have 2 dogs that used to have serious meltdowns whenever we left them at home. Our solution was to give them each a piece of chewy chicken jerky right as we walked out the door. Dogs LOVE it, and they forget all about you as they happily chew away :)

Yes. Young dogs need a high concentration of protein, middle-aged dogs can thrive on the protein that exists in the average good-quality dog food, and older dogs need lesser amounts of higher-quality protein.

The humane societies or other shelters have purebred pets and loving animals who were given up because of no fault of their own who have been trained and loved by previouw pet owners. They deserve another chance to have a loving home and family life.
