I'd love to generate electricity of my own and wind is ample here. But Tornados are frequent visitors to Ozarks in U.S. Midwest. Those tall skinny windmills look too fragile. Maybe not, but HEY INVENTORS -- Get to your drawing boards. Buyers await!

Good advice about winning a Staring Contest with sharks. Can't stare at 'em while I'm going the OTHER way! Yes I believe they attack if I 'run' but at least I won't have to watch it! From my Calif. beach days, I say DON'T ENTER SHARK WATERS!

Recycle old newspapers by wetting them and laying around your plants to reduce weeds and add organic matter. You have your own weedmat and if you cover it with organic mulch it looks good too.

If you make yourself lunches for work or school. Rewash and reuse water/juice bottles and plastic containers instead of using readily disposable plastic bags or tossing away your containers. Its easy, saves money and prevents more disposable dumping.

Collect information on your purchases environmental credentials. Google to see what people are saying; to see if there's any dirt on a product or service. Obviously the more major the purchase the more research is sensible. There's no perfect solution.

During the winter most people leave power going to their central a/c units, even though it never runs. By turning off the breaker, you cut the electricity flow and save money. In spring, turn it back on 1 month before you need it again!

How to pour liquid without 'glugs'

Tip Sheet Credibility: 29

Apex is right about pouring liquid from a hole in TOP, not bottom. Keeps us from bathing the engine in oil when filling. Really important when pouring caustic or less-safe liquids and clumsy larger cans. Plus who wants to mop up slop-overs?

Install solar panels for heating and electric. Any extra power can be pumped back into the national grid. Although the initial expense of these can be expensive, these will more than pay for themselves over the long run.

How to Get Your Home Ready for Solar

Tip Sheet Credibility: 7

submitted by Solar-4-Rent 2009-07-21 11:47:10 am

Use EnergyStar rated appliances and save money as well as electricity and the environment. Remember that an appliance has two price tags; the purchase price and the usage price. The money you save in usage more than compensates for the purchase price.
